I own a Toshiba Satellite M45 with Windows XP Home Edition at least that's
what i bought. When i tried to us the cd that came with it, it said that
it wasn't for Satellite A40.

You have hardware issues. Contact Toshiba tech support for
repair/replacement. When you speak to them, tell them what happened with
the recovery disk.
