Assuming Windows XP OS that is fully updated with service pack 2 and latest
updates:
1st thing to try is to reboot the computer. Still no sound?
Sounds like you don't have a sound device driver installed for your system.
Right click My Computer, left click Manage then Device Manager. Left click
the + beside Sound, video and game controllers line (if not already
expanded.) Is there any yellow exclamation points by any of the lines. If
so there is a problem with the driver for that device. If you don't see the
line for Sound, video.... you probably have an issue with your hardware.
You may still be able to get the driver installed.
Go to the computer manufacturer's web site, search for proper drivers for
the sound device that is not working and download and install the drivers.
Your sound should then work.

I am using windows media player 9. I have no sound? a message comes
up..Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem

your sound device. There may not be a sound device installed on your
computer, it may be in use by another program, or it may not be
functioning
properly.
I'm not sure what do do next? I am unable to play audio on my computer!
