I'm tired--usb external hard-drive

Please excuse my ignorance but I never used hard-drives besides the
default that came with computer. Never added another one and all that
stuff.


I picked up a 'cheapie' (by virtue of sale and rebate) Maxtor 60 gb
usb hard-drive. One of those SMALL things that are convenient. (few
inches,etc.)


I connected it to my laptop. Yet to figure it out but seems to work
AOK.

I save a ton of things on laptop hard-drive and hate for them to add
up where it takes forever to get them off. (photo's,etc.)


So at least save much of the stuff on usb hard-drive vs. the one
laptop.



Sorry---but my question?



I spend 57 years getting things OFF the laptop hard-drive to the 'usb
hard-drive AND it all comes back !!!! It might be nice to have this
duplication but if not wanted? Do I have something set-up wrong? By
coming back I mean if I ship everything from \mydocuments,etc. to
store on usb hard-drive the next day \mydocuments,etc. on laptop has
all the duplicate stuff back in it.
