"William B. Lurie" <billurie@xxxxxxxxxx> wrote in message news:45ED68C9.1080406@xxxxxxxxxxxxxI was sent an instructional CD with audio text
plus video. It has just this one .AVI file on CD
Latest Windows Media Player opens the audio but
shows only psychedelic changing color patterns
instead of the video. I find all of the dropdowns
and even their titles to click on......useless.
Where can I find instructions or a manual?
Thank you.
WMP has the ability to play .avi files. Make sure you have it selected as a file type.
On the menu bar click Tools > Options > file Types tab.
If .avi is unchecked, check it and click Apply > Ok.
Any plug-ins, codecs, skins, visualizations, etc. can be obtained at:
http://www.wmplugins.com/
and how do I get to where I can follow your Tools>>etcetera? Sorry
to have to ask.....
and I see that .avi and .wmv are both shown. Perhaps
that answers the first half of my question. Of course, the basic
problem was solved when I followed other advice and downloaded
and installed VLC Media Player. I get annoyed when things happen,
such as this, where I have XP and SP2 and all of the forever updates,
yet the first time I go to use the built-in WMP, that lists .AVI, I
have to go to off-Microsoft sites to grope for what else to install.
