That's the problem. Thousands, maybe millions of laptops were sold with
NO CD's. As a buyer of one of those I have a system that Microsoft will
neither condemn nor verify and nothing to do about it.

Re: disk error occurred ... I got the impression that the hard drive had a problem since you mentioned "disk error" and not something about not being able to find an operating system.... As for taking ownership of the files, you are not making yourself clear when you say "files being hidden as they are the user profile dir". ... If you set the host computer to see all hidden files, you should have no problem taking ownership of the files. ... Check "Display the contents of system folders".... Re: Access Denied ... The intent was to make the smaller drive the C: drive and that it would contain nothing but the operating system, while my old disk contained all of my files, downloads, etc. ... I can't get to my old e-mail address book in Outlook, I can't get to my old professional data, and I can't even remove three adware programs that are hiding in that folder....
