Hi Wesley
Followed your instructions but check disk does not appear to run on
restart! Computer just starts as normal!
Also tried running check disk from RUN. Typed chkdisk /f but got the
message;
"The type of file system is FAT32.
Cannot lock current drive.
Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process.
Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the
system restarts? Y/N"
Again I said yes, but again nothing happened on restart.
Any idea what is happening? What can I try next?
Thanks, Tim

Time to run Error Checking or chkdsk.exe.
Chkdsk creates and displays a status report for a disk based on the
file
system. Chkdsk also lists and corrects errors on the disk.
Detecting and repairing disk errors:
You can use the Error-checking tool to check for file system errors
and bad sectors on your hard disk.
Run Error Checking | Reboot | Try to empty the Temporary Internet
Files
again.
1. In My Computer or Windows Explorer, right-click the volume you want
to
check, and then click Properties.
2. On the Tools tab, click Check Now.
3. Select both of these:
* Automatically fix file system errors
* Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors
A message will popup.
[[The disk check could not be performed because the disk check utility
needs
exclusive access to some Windows files on the disk. These files can be
accessed only by restarting Windows. Do you want to schedule this disk
check
to occur the next time you restart the computer?]]
Click YES.
You have to reboot for Error-checking to run.
Then reboot.
For a peek at the chkdisk log.
Start | Run | Type: eventvwr | OK
Look in Application | Listed as Information
under Winlogon, Event 1001
[[Description: This includes file system type; drive letter or GUID,
and
volume name or serial number to help determine what volume Chkdsk ran
against. Also included is whether Chkdsk ran because a user scheduled
it or
because the dirty bit was set.]]

Thanks again Wesley
Followed your instructions but could not delete what I assume is the
problem folder. Got the message...
"Cannot delete QUYSUK99. The file is corrupt and unreadable."
What next?
Wesley Vogel Wrote:-
Try this.
Make sure that Outlook Express and all instances of Internet Explorer
are
closed. There are other applications that store files in Temporary
Internet
Files as well, but those are the main ones.
Paste the following line into Start | Run and click OK...
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5
Now delete however many folders that you see. Click Yes to the "Are
you
sure..." message that will popup.
If you see a desktop.ini and index.dat, just leave those files alone.

Cheers for that Wesley, very prompt!
Sadly I've tried all that and no luck... I'm still getting the same
message when I try to defrag. Any other suggestions?
Thanks again, it's nice to know someone cares!

I've been having problems defragmenting my laptop (Acer Travelmate
534XCi); getting the message:
"Disk Defragmenter cannot continue prescan because there is a
corruption in file: C:\Documents and
Settings\Demo User\Local Settings\Temporary Internet
Files\Content\IE5\QUYSUK99"
I've tried running check disc but when I select the 'fix problems'
option I get the message that exclusive access to Windows files and I
should schedule the task to be performed when I restart. I have said
'yes' to this but nothing appears to happen on restart!
I've tried running 'cleanmgr' to clear the Temporary Internet Files
and
Temporary files but this hasn't helped.
I also installed Registrybot hoping it would solve the problem. Sadly
I'm still getting the same message.
Is there something I'm doing wrong? Can anyone suggest a solution?
