The XP backup utility will never make a bootable back up..........it will
however backup files and you will be able to restore those files if you are
still running XP.
If you are looking at making a bootable disk then you should clone your HD
onto another HD.
there are numerous programs that do this I use and like ...Acronis True
Image.
If you do a Google for Clone HD a variety of programs will come up and let
you research the topic more fully.

Hi, I'm trying to back up my laptop onto an external hard drive and create
a
boot disk using the Windows XP Backup utility in System Tools. However
once
I start the Backup process with the Wizard I get an error saying "The
files
for the recovery diskette could not be created. The operation was
aborted."
No further information is available. I know the diskette is fine because
I've tested it on another computer. The floppy drive is fine (and is
brand
new). The external hard drive is brand new, is more than 2x the size
required to backup the laptop, and is viewable in Windows Explorer. All
my
connections are good, etc. Can anyone suggest why I'm might be getting
this
error and vague error message?
Any help is appreciated.
Thank you,
Don Thompson
