A new monitor?

Do I have to resign myself to get a new monitor?
Sometimes my monitor, an old 17'' Spectrum 7Glr,
refuses to light up on booting. One, two, three or
even a dozen rebooting attempts and, to my relief,
it sesuscitates postponing the aggravating
purchase of new equipment. In some circumstances,
when the number of useless bootings has
annihilated all my hopes, I let the monitor "rest"
for two hours or so and voilà it comes back to its
duties.
Does anyone have an explanation or a way to
unravel the problem?
