Re: Three weird things with Dell Dimension Desktop

I connect to the internet through DSL using Internet Explorer. I use Yahoo
for email because it is so easy to access and use from anywhere and it is so
simple. I have NEVER had any problem with Yahoo in any way-I've used it for
years. The PC I had before this one at the same home with the same Yahoo
account always worked perfectly.
Maybe I should also say that shortly after getting this new PC I kept
getting a big popup that I had to update some some Sonic Encoder program but
I had to insert a disk to do so. Dell sent me no disk and this Sonic Encoder
came on the PC. I tried to uninstall it and it said you had to have a disk
to do that also. I went to a Dell FAQ site and it led me to a site with a
tool to uninstall it. This is why I thought it probably wasn't
needed-because it was the number one question on the Dell site and they said
uninstall by clicking on the link. Something had to be done-update or
uninstall because it came up in the middle of the desktop and clicking "x"
would not close it-you couldn't get rid of it at all so you couldn't do
anything else on the PC. The site said it was some kind of corruption in the
software. Do you know what Sonic is for and if it is necessary?
One other thing...when clicking on a website (nfl.com) my PC at home shuts
down but at work there is no problem-also no problem on my daughter's PC at
home with this website.
If you can help me fix ANY one of these problems I will be so grateful. We
have not taken any settings off of default since we got it. We have had
anti-virus on it at all times and all scans are clean. THANK YOU for trying
to help me.

1. I sent an email with a word doc attached to someone. Later I wanted
to
look at what I sent so I went to the sent folder. When I downloaded the
attachment I only got the option to save, not to open-but it didn't save
either when I tried it. There was no way to open and look at what I sent.
I
went to work the next day and went to the exact same sent folder and
downloaded the exact same attachment in the exact same sent email and I
got
the option to open just like I should have. So my work PC is fine but
this
new one at home has gremlins.
2. The same Dell at home has the switch user option. The shortcuts on the
desktop to take me to places on the internet work just fine (a couple of
websites I use daily so I put them there for fast access). My husband's
shortcuts appear on his desktop but will not work-not one of them-it just
hangs up the PC and we have to do Control-Alt-Delete just to free it up.
3. When I emailed my husband some pictures he got an error saying it was
a
bad handle and would not let him open them. I emailed them to myself and
on
the same PC with the switch user thing on it-I could open and view just
fine.
This is a new PC and I am so upset. My Dell at work never does any of
this
crazy stuff. If anyone can help with any of these three things I would be
grateful-maybe they are related somehow. Thanks.
What email program do you use?
How do you connect to the Internet?
