OK, now I understand that "Owner" has been added although not be me.
I am not running short on space, I just like things to be tidy.
Could I transfer everything from the "Owner" to the "Administrator" and
then delete the "Owner" ? Perhaps I should just hide the
Administrator folder and forget about it -:)

Although you could easily transfer everything from owner to administrator,
that would not be optimal.

Right now you have a backup plan. You did not know it existed until now -
but it was there. You had a way to log into your computer and do
administrative level work *if* your "owner" user went corrupt, you forgot
the password, etc.

Technically - you would be safer if you went in and changed the user
"administrator" password to something other than the blankness it probably
is - but - at least at this point you have alternatives. Having more than
one administrator on the system is *not* a bad thing - especially if only
one person knows the password for both.

Also - in the end - you would actually be better off creating yourself
another user by another name and making that a limited account and using
that account for your day-to-day usage. That would prevent lots of things
naturally that you might not even be aware of now.

Having discovered the users folders, perhaps you would like to learn more?

Although I protect my laptop neither my "Owner" nor my "Administrator" on
my desktop are protected by a password. I think that creating a new limited
user for myself would mean a hassle of (somehow) transferring stuff from the
"owner" to the new account. Could I not instead just change the "Owner"
into a limited account and use the "Administrator" if and when it was
necessary
for the tasks that require admin privileges?

I am not entirely unaware about the PC maintenance but I shall keep
your e-mail as a comprehensive reference. I had been stuck for a long time
on Win98SE and it is mainly some of the new features of XP that I am
not familiar with.
