Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

Hi Wesley
Tried all you suggest. Even set the User
Configuration\AdministrativeTemplates\Desktop\Don't save settings at
exit to disble and that didn't work either.

Guess i will just have to live with altering the taskbar each time I boot up.
Many thanks for your input though.
Kind regards
Steve

Steve,

Have a look at the registry keys anyway.

User Configuration\AdministrativeTemplates\Desktop\Don't save settings at
exit only applies to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Policies\Explorer

Also check this key for NoSaveSettings
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Policies\Explorer

Hope this helps. Let us know.

Automated edit here...

Read the instructions at the top.
Scroll down to...
54. Right hand side, click on...
Save Settings on Exit
-----

Or set NoSaveSettings to 0 here...
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Policies\Explorer

NoSaveSettings Description
[[Prevents users from saving certain changes to the desktop. Users can
change the desktop, but some changes, such as the positions of open
windows or the size and position of the taskbar, are not saved when
users log off. Shortcuts placed on the desktop are always saved.]]

Also check this key for NoSaveSettings
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Policies\Explorer

If NoSaveSettings does not exist, it is the same as if it were set 0, the
policy is disabled or not configured. Changes to the desktop are saved.

If NoSaveSettings is set 1, the policy is enabled. Some changes to the
desktop are not saved.
-----

Or if XP Pro, use Group Policy...
Start | Run | Type: gpedit.msc | Click OK |
Navigate to >>>
User Configuration\AdministrativeTemplates\Desktop
Don't save settings at exit
Set it to Not Configured

Thanks for the help Rick. will have a look at MVP kelly's etc. Also the
second reply I had seems top make sense too. Is there some way to find
the line in the registry and change it do you think?
ps - language bar problem now cured. Thanks

Hi,

Actually, the unlock/resize/relock instructions are correct. If it is
not holding through a restart, then some parts that pertain to the
taskbar are damaged. MVP Kelly's Taskbar Repair Tool Plus! can help
with this, see: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/taskbarplus!.htm

As to the language bar, if the above does not resolve the problem, go
to the Control Panel/Regional and Language Options, and on the
languages tab click details. On the settings tab, click the language
bar at the bottom and uncheck the line that loads it.

In win 98 it is easy to resize the taskbar. You just drag it up the
screen to
how any lines you want and it just stays there. How do you do it in
win xp pro? Please do not tell me to " unlock taskbar - resize -
relock. It doesn't
work!! Each time you close down or restart, taskbar assumes original
default
one line size. AND it turns on language bar whether you want it or
not! Help Please

.
