You have it correct, Windows XP Home Edition would be the operating system. Word, Excel etc are part of Microsoft Office and they will not be on your computer unless they are offered to you as a package when you buy the computer. If they aren't included with the purchase of the computer you will have to buy it separately, it is expensive software (in my opinion anyway). Often you can get a better deal on the software if you buy it at the same time from the ones supplying the computer. Just buy from a reputable vendor, you don't want cheap pirated software on your computer.
