Re: REPOST - XP programs don't recognize XP

I did install the XP version of the VirusScan program - that is why I don't
understand why I'm getting the message that it is not designed for the XP
operating system unless it is somehow reading something in the hard drive
from Windows 98 that somehow didn't get removed.

If that's the case it means that it won't run (properly) on XP. Get the XP
version of the VirusScan program

Panda_man - I have a license for the XP CD so authorized to use.
Installed
exactly as you indicated. After Xp installed, I then reinstalled all
compatible programs as well as new XP version of VirusScan. It's the
VirusScan that's causing the problem - it runs fine but keep getting
message
that it's designed for a different operating system. I did manual
uninstall
on VirusScan and reinstalled and still get that message.

Your post is unclear for me ,especially this part:

I had Windows 98 and was given new disk (not upgrade) for XP -
installed and
should no longer have 98. Reinstalled all XP compatible programs/files
on
XP but some programs, such as VirusScan and MSN Messenger, don't

Panda_man : You were give CD or hard disk(drive) ?
What do you mean you reinstalled softwares? When you have a Windows CD ,
you
should have inserted the CD , then boot from it , follow the instruction
to
install the OS without repair . Then it will check for previous Windows
versions. You choose to delete the partition and then format. The install
is
started...

Also , it isn't so important for me ,personally , but how you were given
CD(assuming CD or hard drive ,I don't know) ?! Microsoft's EULA
(end-user
license agreement) states very clearly that you are allowed to install
one
Windows only on one computer so you either buy Windows CD with all the
documents and COA or get an OEM version with purchase of hardware/new
computer.

Reposting since evidently didn't provide enough info first time to get
help I
need. I had Windows 98 and was given new disk (not upgrade) for XP -

on
XP but some programs, such as VirusScan and MSN Messenger, don't
recognize XP
even though they are compatible with XP. VirusScan runs fine but not
MSN
Messenger (no problem not having it but annoying). The problem appears
to be
that the programs somehow are reading that I'm running Windows 98 as
opposed
to XP. My guess is that something didn't go right on the XP install,
leaving
something in from Windows 98. I've run defrag, looked through
install/uninstall - nothing there for 98, etc. Any ideas how to figure
out
problem?
