Log on screen

I have just finished fine tuning a new system with Windows XP. I then
downloaded the latest upgrades.

Prior to this, on start up, it continued straight through to finishing the
desk top with all auto run programs operating. Now it gets to an infernal
logon screen which prevents this and I have to tell it I'm the user - it
will not even accept escape or Enter. How can I avoid this infuriating
interference and restore it to re(starting) fully on it's own. This is
especially important as I wish the machine to get its self fully up and
running after a power fail!

Many thanks
