Re: SP2 & firewall

I just updated to SP2 and I have Zone Alarm (free vers.) on my machine.
MOST important is to prepare your computer ahead of time as directed. I
installed SP2 with the Zone Alarm still running. Upgrade of XP was supposed
to notice that, but didn't. I ended up with Zone Alarm and the XP firewall
both working, not good idea. I went into Start>Control Panel>Windows
Firewall and turned off the Windows firewall. Zone Alarm functions (I
prefer it to Windows firewall). All is well.
But, be sure to prepare, e.g. virus scan, malware/spyware scan, adware scan,
defrag disk, empty tif's and recycle bin, etc. before starting, CLOSE all
programs running in the background.
Understand your desire to avoid problems AHEAD of time. I did a lot of
preparation and it went well. You read about the people who had problems,
not the millions who had no problem.
Recommend running virus scan, AdAware, Spybot Search and Destroy,
CWShredder, A squared, and then turn off background programs, empty tifs,
clear cookies, empty recycle bin, and go for it.
