Have you tried loading XP into safe mode; press F8
straight after bios boots up. look for the option to
system restore to 1st saved point. this hopefully will
return the PC back to its original state before any
software was added. I have come across something similar
before and if I remember right, it was after I loaded on
Norton antivirus. if it works, I would load on software 1
at a time to try narrow down the problem. also check the
Microsoft website as they have a free XP registry checker.
