Ramesh Thank you for your patience. I downloaded the newest IE6 SP1 , I disabled the registry key that tells windows that IE is installed , started the new installation and about 10% into the installation I get a message that the software I am installing hasn't passed Microsoft's Logo requirements (or something similar to that) and it will abort the installation (I downloaded the new software from Microsoft , IE Homepage ) . I think I'm going to leave everything just as it is for now . The computer and IE as well as XP are all working flawlessly with the exception of creating and deleting temp files. I really see no difference in performance and I always deleted temp files on browser shutdown anyway and I do no offline work from the browser. You have been very helpful and I do appreciate your replies . Peace and Good Luck, Chas "Ramesh [MVP]" <ramesh@nojunkmails.com@mvps.org> wrote in message news:OwTv2YiPEHA.3452@TK2MSFTNGP10.phx.gbl... Reinstalling IE will not erase third-party add-ons. Ramesh Thanks once again for your reply. Watching my browser very carefully since this problem started , I have discovered that I am no longer creating any temporary internet files . When I check the Temporary Internet Files Folder in Explorer it is totally empty both during a browser session or after closing the browser . This doesn't seem to affect the browser speed but maybe that's because I have a pretty fast cable hookup. Maybe the reason I no longer have the option to empty the Temporary Internet files is because I am no longer creating them . Seems as though I may need to reload IE . If I kill the registry key that shows IE to be installed as per MS instructions and reload IE will I lose settings and plugins such as popup blockers , anti spam programs. If not then a reload is definitely in order. Thanks Chas "Ramesh [MVP]" <ramesh@nojunkmails.com@mvps.org> wrote in message news:%23FkY$gbPEHA.1548@TK2MSFTNGP10.phx.gbl... Chas, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\AdvancedOptions\CRYPTO\CACHE_FLUSH This key is responsible for that checkbox to appear, and it's correctly set in your system. No idea why that option does not appear. -- Ramesh - Microsoft MVP Windows XP Shell http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k What You Should Know About the Sasser Worm and It Variants: http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/sasser.asp "Charles Swenson" <nospam@nospam.com> wrote in message news:95Lqc.55$Hh.4@fe1.texas.rr.com... Ramesh, Here is the reg export , but I don't know how to make the screenshot . Upon closer observation of this problem , it appears that I am no longer creating Temporary Internet files . The folder for them is still present but it is completely empty , both during a browsing session and after the browser is closed . Ramesh Thanks for your help and patience , I hope yopu don't give up on me before we solve this. Windows is installed on C: The entire Windows installation was done using default locations and settings. I ran the command in the Run box as you suggested , sorry no change. I ran the registry repair for "Advanced " tab is blank. no change. The Microsoft Knowledge base suggestion to reinstall IE , is a little harsh and I would like to avoid it if possible. In the registry under "Hkey_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\internet Explorer\Advanced Options\Crypto\Cache_Flush\" there are several values that can be changed , but I'm uncertain which if any of these will cure my problem. Which drive you've installed XP? The REG applies if you have Windows installed into C:\Windows. For any other paths, open the REG file and change C:\\WINDOWS\\System32\\ to the correct path -or- This command should help, anyways: type this command exactly in the RUN box: regsvr32 /n /i inetcpl.cpl -- Ramesh - Microsoft MVP Windows XP Shell http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k --------------------------------------- What You Should Know About the Sasser Worm and It Variants: http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/sasser.asp --------------------------------------- "Charles Swenson" <nospam@nospam.com> wrote in message news:gJpqc.124660$hR1.41087@fe2.texas.rr.com... Ramesh Thanks for your reply. My Advanced Tab is not blank , only the delete temporary internet files on browser shutdown is missing , everything else is still there. I did do the registry restore for the blank Advanced tab anyway but it did not restore the missing option. I also tried the option to restore default settings. I have set my cache to a lower setting and can manually empty the cache with no problems , it's just much easier to have it done automatically. I have the computer set to do automatic updates and have all the available critical updates. I have XP's firewall enabled , I use AVG antivrus and have it set to update weekly , which it does . I have AdAware Pro and Spybot and run them weekly. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Tried this one a few days ago with no resolution , so I'll try to keep the thread alive. I have lost the option to empty the temporary internet files on browser shutdown. I know where it's supposed to be in Internet Options\Advanced Tab\Security Options , but it is no longer there. It used to be and I don't know when or why it is gone . I've always used this option and only found it was missing when I started gradually losing disk space . My AV program recently found the SecThought Trojan on my computer , but it promptly put it in quaratine so I doubt that that had anything to do with this lost option. I suspect this is a simple registry change , but have no idea what to check or change in the registry. Thanx in advance Chas
