Firewalls can interfere with local file sharing activity. Turn off
the firewall on both computers, at least temporarily. You can also
disconnect the Shaw Cable input to the router if you are concerned,
although the NAT protection found in most routers is fully adequate
for stopping hackers and viruses such as msblast.

On the Windows XP Machine make sure the guest account is active
(Control Panel - User Accounts). Then open Control Panel - Network
Connections. Right-click on the icon for the LAN connection and
select Properties. Make sure that "File and Printer sharing for
Microsoft Networks" is installed.

Next open Control Panel - Printers and Faxes, right-click on the icon
for the printer you want to share and select Sharing. Click on the
"Share this printer" button to select it and then give it a share name
that is understandable to you, is not more than 10 or 12 characters
long, and which contains no blank spaces, punctuation, or other
special characters.

Then on the Windows 98 computer use Control Panel - Printers - Add New
Printer - Network Printer and browse the network to see if the shared
printer on the XP computer shows up.

If the printer is still not showing up check your network
configuration and make sure that the Workgroup name is *exactly* the
same on both computers.
On the Windows XP machine check this in Control Panel - System -
General - Identification.
On the Windows 98 machine check this in Control Panel - Network -
Identification.

Good luck
