Two mornings ago I did a Microsoft update which put in 5 updates and 3
failures, and restarted the system.
Failures:
Update to .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 for the .NET Framework
Assistant
1.0 x86 (KB963707)
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 Security Update for Windows
2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, and
Windows
Server 2008 R2 (KB953297)
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2 Security Update for Windows
2000, Windows Server 2003, and Windows XP (KB974417)
After the restart I couldn't get on my broadband connection (Comcast).
Nothing. Neither FixFire nor IE. Not email. Not the Outlook Express.
Nothing. I'm on dial-up now.
The Link and Cable lights come on. The network window shows it as
connected, but I see an occasional flicker on Send and nothing at all on
Receive. I turned off the modem, uninstalled the connections, shut down,
turned on the modem and rebooted. It still shows a connection, but I get
no
action and no icon in the system tray, even though I have it set to
show.
Final piece of good news? I ran a restore. It prepared to restore. It
restored files and settings. When it started up again I got Restore
again,
telling me nothing had changed - and, indeed, I still can't get on
Comcast,
even after trying other Restore operations.
Please send miracles at once!
Microsoft Update usually work well, unless you happen to also update a
driver during the update session.
I assume you've read Microsoft's own report above. Usually isn't a lot of
help after that.
Interestingly only a couple weeks ago some one told me I was lucky I
hadn't had an update completely crash my system.
