Here is the output with both pinging the name which reders wrong address and
then times out and then pinging the IP. Wins is not used. Actually 10.0.0.2
is the DNS server but it is for everyone and is not a problem
C:\Documents and Settings\lbm.BEDERSON>ping bed-mainapp2
Pinging bed-mainapp2 [1.0.0.2] with 32 bytes of data:
Request timed out.

Ping statistics for 1.0.0.2:

C:\Documents and Settings\lbm.BEDERSON>ping 10.0.0.2

Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:

could you please post back the result of ping bed-mainapp2? Also check the.
records of DNS and/or WINS (if you have WINS).

The ipconfig looks fine. What do you get if running ping -a 10.0.0.2?

Hello
I am in a Win2003 Server enviroment with about 70 XP clients. One of
the
servers has the address of 10.0.0.2. All of the clients can ping
this
server
and get replies with the proper address except for two workstations.
When
they ping the server the reply comes back as 1.0.0.2. (discovered
becaus
of
problems connecting to a program that runs on that server) Never
seen
any
thing like it and cant find any documentation on this issue
Thanks
Lee
