Re: XP Pro Requests Password When Accessing Folders From Another PC

Hi
Successful Sharing involves some general consideration in Network settings,
http://www.ezlan.net/sharing.html
As well as specific adjustment of each computer according to what it is
allowed to be shared.

Hello,

I hope someone can help me! I have an XP Pro Desktop wired to a linksys
router. I have a laptop that I recently installed Windows Vista to. My
roommate also has a Desktop with XP pro wired through the router. Prior
to
upgrading my laptop to Vista, I used to copy files and folders from XP Pro
Desktop. After I upgraded my laptop to Vista, I can see my XP Pro
Desktop,
but when I try to access it via Window Explorer I get a pop-up that
requests
a username and password.

I can access the folders on my Vista laptop from both Desktops with XP
Pro.
I can access the folders on my roommates Desktop with XP pro from my
desktop
with XP pro and my Laptop with Vista. I cannot access the folders on my
XP
Pro desktop from either my roommates XP Pro Desktop or my Vista Laptop
without getting the pop-up requesting a username and password.

I only use Windows firewall on all three machines. No third party
firewalls
are installed, however, the XP Pro Desktop that I cannot access did have
Zone
Alarm installed which I recently removed. I have allowing file/printer
checked in Windows Firewall. All Computers are in the same workgroup.

If anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate your assistance!

Regards,
Scott
