Re: IE7 & registry problems

I think the problem is now solved.

I first of all checked out the NIC setting and noticed that power management
was set to turn it off when it was inactive, so I disbaled this feature.

I was then able to access the initial IE7 choose settings page (the one you
get when you first install it).
After selecting the settings and chosing to save it I received an error
message on the task bar which after googling led me to a registry change.
I was stupid enough not to write down the error message or the registry path
that had to be changed.

It seems pretty stable now, and I was even able to run updates and install
SP3 and the get an NIC update.

uninstall IE7 and reboot TWICE
then go through the steps to repair XP

get XP running, etc. before reinstalling IE7.

If it were me and I had a computer in this state, I'd reformat and
start with a clean bare metal fresh install of the OS.

None of them found anything, it was very clean.
This is a business system behind a very strong firewall, we have a very
strict anti virus proceedure therefore I can only assume some corruption has
occured from user interaction maybe.

I have been looking at a users XP machine as she is reporting very slow
internet speeds, most of the time the page will not load and times her out.

After trying numerous fixes, CCleaner, Spybot scan, full anti-virus scan,
registry clean up and scan disk, the problem is just as bad.

I tried installing Firefox and the same problems occur. I have also ran a
IE7 dll fixer, no fix. I have then uninstalled IE7 and reinstalled it, to
find the same problems.

I re-ran the IE7 and got the following errors:

DllUnregisterServer entry point
DllUnregisterServer in shdocvw.dll failed 0x8004005
DllUnregisterServer in oleaut.dll failed 0x8004005

Has anyone got any ideas?
