Re: access problem--what happened?


I'm sorry for the misunderstanding as your Q not clear to me. May be just me!.
Try to Recreate the shares and make sure the Firewall allowing these shares
access, you issue looks like a misconfiguration of Firewall or shares
permissions.
Any More info will be of a help to anyone want to help you, so please
provide more info, error messages, anti-virus/firewall and the OS version.

If the Desktop which has the Shared Folders On it is OFF, then it is
Normal
for the folders maped ro you created shortcuts to it on the laptop to be
unavialable.
Since you rebooted both systems and you are able to accesss the shared and
use the printer tht explain the prevoius answer.
But if you want to share folders and files and you be able to turn the
Desktop OFF and ON when you want, you will need an External Hard Drive
that
can be connected to the Router and shred between these computers, you will
have a CMS software to configure the External Hard and set password to
secure
it from outer world?.
