Hi, i have a laptop with Windows XP OS and service pack 2. For
some reason, I cannot connect to the internet using web browser on
default port 80. I have tried both IE and Firefox and none of them
work. Surprisingly I can access secure websites using https. so,
http://<website> does not open and give page not found error
message but https://<website> works and web page is displayed. The
issue does not come if connected in safemode with networking. All
other applications Windows messanger, outlook etc. can connect to
the internet.

I have followed instructions on KB article How to determine and
recover from Winsock2 corruption
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811259). Tried nesh winsock reset
command. but none of them have fixed the issue.

Is there any way I can fix this error without re-installing the
OS.

Sometimes LSPfix will solve problems like this.

Otherwise, prime suspects are firewalls and VPN Clients. Try un-
installing any firewall or VPN clients that may be on your computer to
see if it helps.
