Cannot get Internet COnnection

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Hi there, I've got ELL GX-280 with 2Gb of RAM. I have three partitions. Now I have Vista on C: and WinXP Pro on D:.

The reason I installed Vista back in August was that I lost Internet connection on XP all of a sudden, out of the blue. I called DELL since I still have a warrantee and talked to a tech for 4 hours. He tried everything, he read all sorts of manuals. He offered chipset driver update. I did it already before I called. We did it again. He offered to change the motherboard and they did. No help.

I am doing my dev work in Vista now but I still have some software left there that I need and cannot transfer for incompatibility reasons.

I tried to reinstall XP a couple of times. First it screwed up my Vista boot menu and I could not get there. I had to reinstall Vista again which later I realized was a mistake, I could have gotten there with a trick. Anyhow, my latest attempt was to "repair" the system with an old WinXP Pro of mine. I do have about a dozen WinXP DVDs from MSDN, etc. This one was a commercial one my wife purchased for me in 2004. I thought that perhaps that one would do a better job. Anyhow, I had trouble with product activation kegs, call MS this morning and finally WinXP is back up again.

NO INTERNET. The repair option did nothing to repair the OS. How could it be that I can get access to www via my Vista, another Vista on this machine (another partition), WinServer2003 but not from XP?

I do have a restoration CD for XP (original from my purchase). Perhaps there is an option to uninstall the Internet completely and try to reinstall it with new drivers?I cannot figure out how it could be done in XP? Shall I uninstall Internet in Windows Programs?

I am at the end of my wits.

If anyone has any ideas, please, help.

Thank you.
