Re: Mshome is not accessible

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

The user's manual doesn't cover the trusted traffic, etc. It is not obvious
in the help menu how to configure and I haven't been able to get the trusted
configured so communication is allowed. I did contact the Symantec India
support and didn't get any useful information. Since the Norton Internet
Security 2007 does indicate that the trusted is the MAC address of the home
router, it does appear all the traffic originating from the network is
trusted. However I find that if the home router dies I can't manually input
the new home router information. The only way I found to deal with Norton
Internet Security 2007 problems is to reinstall.

Thanks for the Microsoft networking port information.

I don't have the Allow Microsoft Networking button. I have seen that in a
newer product. I believe the product was called Norton Endpoint Protection.

Thanks for the help. I did get familiar with different commands such as
Browstat vw etc. As long as I am not getting the MsHome is not accessible I
am planning to move on to other more important problems.

There is a second thread under this topic. Originally I put a second post My
Network Places Share Not Accessible. However Chuck considered that post the
same as the Mshome is not accessible. That thread I am continuing to see if
there is a solution to the My Network Places Share Not Accessible.

At this point I don't see IP address and Mask but rather the MAC
address of home router. There isn't a Home Network Wizard.
There is an Advanced Settings. I selected Configure

Norton Internet Security 2007 does not have a Block access to
secure sites.

It does show the Default Block Inbound and Outbound ICMP as
Blocked and Block Windows File Sharing as Blocked. Per the web
site under these conditions I shouldn't be able (I am on
hom200of002) to reach hom200of001 and hom100fr001 and modify files
but I can. I can also ping to hom200of001 and hom100fr001 by using
the computer name.

I am left with I still donƒ Tt know how to fix Norton Internet
Security 2007 other than making sure all the components that will
be in the network are active, uninstalling Norton Internet
Security 2007, and reinstalling Norton Internet Security 2007.

As I said, I'm not very familiar with this product. Generally,
access can be granted on several levels. One of which is the
originating IP address ... so that any traffic originating from your
local network is always trusted and allowed to work (with your
reinstall, this is probably what you have now). Another level is
blocking/allowing specific ports. Microsoft networking uses ports
135, 138, 139, and 445. If these ports are blocked, it won't work.
(That is what the Allow Microsoft Networking button probably does).

The best advice I can offer you at this point is to read and
understand the manual that comes with this product.
