Re: After reinstall XP PRO cannot access internet

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

Thnx Robert,

I solved the problem - after completely formatting hard drive I need to
install the Gigabyte mptherboard drivers which were on the motherboard setup
disk. I susoected that coulld have been the problem but was reluctant to
overwrite possibly newer drivers which were factory installed. After
installing the drivers my Internet Gateway device appeared and internet
access with it.

I couldn't send ipconfig results as there was not driver at the time.

Now i ahve to make sure all installed hardware has the right drivers...ho
hum...I will make an image after all has been setup so I dont have theses
dramas in future.

Thnx for you advice anyway

regards,
Terry

I have just reinstalled XP Pro with SP2 on my desktop but have no internet
access.

My broadband connection is through a 4 port ethernet wired Modem and my
desktop is connected to one of these ethernet ports. Previously other
computers are able to connect to one of these ports and get intenrnet
access
without any problems. IN fact this laptop is using one of those 4 ports.
The connection is on all the time and the ISP user name and password is
saved
on the modem.

Both internet connections on both machines appear to have the same
settings.
Lan settings have automatic detect settings enabled, no proxy server.

The LAN connection indicates a connection (01:22:30 duration) but no
packets
have been sent or received. Internet protocol is set ot obtain Ip address
automatically.

However this laptop has an internet gateway whereas the desktop does not?

I presume I have to connect to the Gateway but have no idea how to do this
any help would be gratefully received.
