folders do not seem to disappear from the exploded networking tree, even if I
try to delete them.
1. Is the potential issue too many shares?
2. Beyond unsharing, what else must be done to remove the share and regain
that memory space (if there is a limitation)?
3. The tool suggests problems may be with a cheap router (LinkSys) which I
have, but again I am able to share and access some folders fine, but others I
cannot.

The "Not enough server storage ..." error is well known here. It's an obscure
registry setting, generally messed up by antivirus installation (typically NAV):
