XP Network - No DNS?

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

Hi all,
I had a crash on my Acer laptop over the weekend. Don't know what happened but I can no longer get any DNS resolution, I can't even ping localhost( though 127.0.0.1 is fine) . I can still connect to networks and I can reach machines via IP address but I can't put their names in. I've tried uninstalling/re-installing Network cards, TCP-IP etc and I've been over all the settings and the Hosts file etc; bit stumped now and would be grateful for any ideas?

Thanks,
Mark
