I think I'm becoming more & more ignorant on this sharing issue. I can't
even get printer connected to laptop to share with XP Pro machine (PC1).
XP
Pro machine will share hubby's printer, but his PC ( PC3) runs XP Home.
The
laptop's printer is shared, but does not appear under printers on XP Pro
(PC1). When I tried to add laptop's printer to XP Pro's printers (where I
can see hubby's printer on PC3), I get a Guest logon pop-up. I've checked
&
unchecked SFS in Folder Options so... many times.
Since PC3 is running XP Home, the only way to share anything is to use the
Guest account.
Hence, the Guest account on PC3 must be enabled and should have a password.
When the logon screen appears, you enter the password for the Guest account
on the remote system.

The laptop runs Media Edition 2005 SP2, & is up to date on updates. PC1,
which has the program I could once share through network & run from
laptop,
is running XP Pro SP2. After reinstalling XP Pro on PC1 I needed
Microsoft
tech assistance to get SP2 installed, & Microsoft sent an .exe file, which
looked like a registry editor running in a DOS window. After that SP2
installed (in Safe Mode). Could this "program" Microsoft sent have
changed
something that is making it impossible for me to share between laptop & XP
Pro (PC1); even a printer?

Does this make any sense?

SP2 made some changes in the way that sharing works. However, MS did not
update Help & Support to reflect these changes.
Follow the detailed instructions in MVP Chuck or MVP Jack's websites. It
isn't all that hard, but computers are remarkably intolerant of the
slightest mistake.
And, FYI, I am well well well past 40. In fact I can barely remember being
that young.
