I am having issues with connecting to my high speed internet through my on
board lan connetion. I have also added a NIC card and tried going through the
USB port. Each and every procees nets the same result. Device manager reports

came up: There is an error in the IP connection, the RPC server cannot be
found. I am very close to cleaning the hard drive and reinstalling Windows XP
pro.

Look for relevant error messages in Event Viewer (in Start > Control
Panel > Performance and Maintenance > Administrative Tools). For

Go to Start > Run > services.msc, and make sure that the Remote
Procedure Call service is started and is set to run automatically.

Thank you for the response. Unfourtunately neither worked. I saw no messages
regarding ip/networking issues. Also I did the Go to Start > Run >
services.msc, and make sure that the Remote

You're welcome, Bob. I'm sorry that those suggestions didn't solve
the problem for you, and I don't have any other ones. Have you done
website and newsgroup searches for the RPC server error message?
Thank you for the lead to search the newsgroups for the RPC server issue.
Here is what I found;
Open services.
Start>run> type: services.msc>OK
double click DNS Client>set to Automatic>Apply>start>OK
Repeat for DHCP and RPC. The RPC was your hint.
I think it was the DHCP as this one was the only one that was set to manual.
It was after I set it to auto and started it that I got a different message
on the ipconfig/renew. So unplugged the cable modem and restarted the
computer and plugged the modem back in and viola! everthing worked.
