Re: ICS Internet Gateway not connecting.

1. To disable ICS I unchecked the box for it on the services tab in msconfig,
I have since reenabled it with no luck.
2. Does not matter if i tell it to use a residential gateway, that was the
setting it had originally resetting it makes no difference
3. Until I can figure out what is changing my proxy settings I am leaving
the firewalls off, I have run into a similar problem where the personal
firewalls were changing proxy settings
4. I know the problem is with IE and not the router, and it does not matter
when I uncheck the proxy settings but they come back after reboot.
5. IE will not display any page even Microsoft, http or https.
6. There is no parental control software installed.

A little more info:
This computer is on my tech bench with 5 others all connect to the same
router just fine. Only this one has the "Internet Gateway" icon in Network
Connections. (In all my years working with all versions of Windows I have
never seen that icon on any computer.) If the Internet Gateway would acctualy
connect IE would probably work but it says "Connecting" and never does. Since
Mozilla doesn't use this feature it connects fine and I would be happy with
that but this also effects sending email with Outlook Express, and Windows
updates.

The Internet Gateway is your broadband router. Clicking the Internet
Gateway icon lets you monitor and control the router's operation.
Don't disable the Internet Gateway -- doing that tells your router to
disconnect itself from the Internet.

What exactly did you do in Msconfig to disable ICS? ICS shouldn't be
enabled on your computer in the first place.

Run the Network Setup Wizard again. If the Wizard detects your
router's shared Internet connection, tell the Wizard to use that.
Otherwise, tell the router that the computer connects to the Internet
through a residential gateway (which is what the Wizard calls a
router).

The firewall and antivirus programs aren't causing the problem. Turn
them back on to protect your computer.

Since Mozilla has no problem getting to the Internet, your router is
working fine. The problem is in IE7 or related settings.

In IE7, click Tools > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings.
Un-check ALL of the boxes on that screen, including "Automatically
detect settings".

Does IE get the "denied access to the requested URL." message for all
sites, or only for secure sites (https://)?

Does the computer have any program installed, such as parental control
software, that can control Internet access?
