There are no errors in Device Manager, I am connected to the internet,
and I can share files with other computers in my workgroup, but I cannot
get properties on my local network [because it doesn't exist], So I
can't see TCP/IP settings, etc.
New install of XP Pro on a BFG MB with Nvidea chipset.

Any ideas?

Something's wrong with the LAN connection. Go to Device Manager and
uninstall the network adapter for the LAN, which will also remove the
LAN connection. Then click Action > "Scan for hardware changes" to
reinstall it, which will also create a new LAN connection.

Updating the network adapter driver from the Nvidia web site might
help, too.

As it was a new XP installation, and I had nothing to lose but time, I
formatted and reinstalled XP, this time it works fine. Thanks Steve
