Re: Computer keeps dropping off network....

Here is addtional information:

Problem - computer keeps dropping off network for no reason - and to top it
off, programs crash A LOT. Naturally, this forces my user to restart the
computer (a lot during the day).

So far, I have 10x check the subnet address - that's correct. I've ran
nbtstat -R a few times to flush it out. I've disabled, renabled, restarted,
stop/started the computer browser service a dozen times. There is only one
domain in the company and a single domain controller. The client is in the
domain. The client is a WinXP Pro with SP2.

I see these in the event viewer all the time:
Application Log:

ID: 1054 - Usernv
Windows cannot obtain the domain controller name for your computer network.
(An unexpected network error occurred. ). Group Policy processing aborted.

ID 1000 - Application Error
Faulting application drwtsn32.exe, version 5.1.2600.0, faulting module
kernel32.dll, version 5.1.2600.3119, fault address 0x00083f9c. (Dr. Watson
loves to crash on this machine).

System Log
ID 4321 - NetBT
The name "PLASTICS :1d" could not be registered on the Interface with
IP address 192.168.0.50. The machine with the IP address 192.168.0.196 did
not allow the name to be claimed by this machine. (PLASTICS is the domain
name)

(that ID 4321 is just clogging up my system log...over and over and over).

I've been going in circles w/this. Even after reinstalling Windows (and 3rd
party app's and hardware) - this has been happening. I know I can do the
systematic way of process of elimination by just unchecking stuff in
msconfig, but that takes forever and will be my last resort. Any idea's on
why this happens or how to resolve it? THANK YOU in advance for your
help/ideas.

A few errors about the windows time not synching up - but there was an LSAS
error in there, which lead me to a KB article which lead me to calling MS to
get the hotfix and applied that (which solved my LSAS error) but didn't solve
this computer dropping off the network all the time. Today I went ahead and
just triple checked the DNS entries on the client machine. Got on the DNS
server to see if the computer was showing up there and it was too. Still
drops off. I'm now suspecting 3rd party software is causing it (which will
take me a while to narrow down).
