Can you ping the DC by IP when that happens?

Hi
I have a windows 2003 network with Windows Xp Provessional and Windows 2000
Professional users connected to a domain
Some of the XP machines Will drop the domain connection but maintain the
local user and the internet connection. They are not running the XP screen
saver. They are on different network switches.
These users
Login in normally and have access to the domain and the internet
The User Name on the Start menu is the name from the domain user (e.g.
John Smith)
After some time they lose acess to the domain but still have access to the
internet (DHCP is on the server)
The User Name on the start menu is the login name (e,g, John)
This only happens regularly with some of our XP users. The rest never have
this problem.
Is there a setting somewhere that I have to adjust on those machines so they
do not log off the domain until the user logs them off?
Thanks
