Re: Newbie Networker having access problems

It may be as simple as adding your friends to the users list on your system
and give them the rights to access your system.

right click my computer
manage
users and groups
users
add new user

then select the folders you would like them to access and add them as users
in the sharing and security.

I recently set up a network with my two roommates. Network wizard set the
network up without a hitch, however neither of my roommates can access my
computer or view the files or folders I have designated as shared. However,
I can access their shared files and folders. Also, they can see and share
each other's shared files and folders. None of my shared folders show up to
them under My Network Places. They can see that my computer is present on
the network by using the View Workgroup computers option under My Network
Places, however if they try to access it from there they get the following
message.

"\\Aaron is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this
network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if
you have access permissions.

Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at
this computer."

I have no idea what makes me different from my roommates. I am running
Norton 2006 but I could not find any solution to the problem by poking around
in the Norton options. Also, the problem persists even when Norton is
completely disabled the problem persists. I have Windows Firewall always
disabled so I don't see how it could be the problem either. We all run
Windows XP Home Edition. If anyone can help me or give me some advice I
would greatly appreciate it. Obviously I am totally new at this and feel
totally ignorant. Feel free to point out my gross lack of knowledge for the
sake of teaching me something about my problem. Thanks in advance to anyone
who helps.
