Re: Peer to Peer file sharing using WidowsXP accross the internet

Greetings: I've been attempting to share a folder across two high
speed internet connections. I am able to ping the peer PC. I have
shared the file out to the "everyone" group. I am attempting to map
to the folder by IP (no DNS sever is being used) example
\\12.14.56.10\share The results I get is that file can not be found.
I am able to "Remote Desktop" into the target PC. I remember doing
this a year ago with no problems. I have file/print sharing turned
on. I totally disable the XP firewall. There are no other managed
devices between the peers. I installed the netbeui protocol to see if
that would work - with no success. I have both the tcp/ip and the
tcp/ip version 6 installed. I don't want to use any 3rd party
products. What am I missing?
Thanks in advance for your response.

This would be an incredibly foolhardy thing to do, even if you couldget it
to work.
NetBEUI won't help you; it isn't relevant and isn't routable.
You need a firewall in place, even if it isn't the Windows firewall.

My advice: use VPN if you want to do this - anything else is asking for a
world of trouble.
