Re: IIS - What do I do next?

Well I googled and I guess I answered my own question about asp.net and it is
required but I had it to manual, don't know if that matters or not, so I set
to automatic.

Now if I can just get the name issue resolved on how to access my server
from outside my home network.

Thank you Cari that was a very informative link. I uninstalled IIS and then
followed the exact directions in the link you gave. Did the cmd >natstat and
everything was fine. (listening)
However, I still cannot connect from outside my home network to my server.
In the properties of my default website under the website tab it has the
option for all unassigned or my router IP address which I tried both, then it
has the advanced option where you can name it.

Where does this name come from? Is it just something you make up or do you
have to have a domain name? I thought the purpose of having a server was so
that you did not have to have a domain that anyone who had your ftp address
could access the files you have in your IIS folders and by giving it a name
they would not have to type in your WAN address to connect to your server. I
thought by giving it a name that anyone who typed in the name I had set in
advanced properties would automatically connect to my server. I'm evidently
wrong on all points.

I have MS Server 2003 RC2 25 client software but have never opened the
package. If I can't figure out this supposedly simple installation I don't
think I'm ready to tackle Server 2003.

When I set up the account on DYNDNS.org and got joyce.homeftp.net I thought
that this was how people would connect to me but again I am wrong, when
people type in joyce.homeftp.net they don't get anything, when I type it in I
get the Syntax settings web page.

According to all the research I did this was supposed to be so simple, yet I
have been working on trying to set this up for over a week now.

Please......... what am I doing wrong? Does this have anything to do with
ASP.net or any other code? I removed ASP.net from the user accounts long ago
since it was something that I did not use, must I reinstall it as a user
account in order for this to work and if so how do I do that?

I have installed IIS on my pc running Windows XP MCE. I assume it is up and
running since I am able to see my files by typing in fttp://localhost in
my
browser.

Now what? I googled for a week now and no instructions as what to do next
to
create it as a FTP site that is available outside my network. Do I create
a
web page, HTML, PHP???? Is there some "simple" instructions telling me how
to
do this? I have read the posts on this forum and followed the links but do
not understand what I need to do or how to create a PHP page as some
suggested even after reading what was "greek" to me.

I use a linksys router which I have opened ports 21 and 80, and also
signed
up with dyndns.org and entered that information into my router. Is there a
turtorial for dummies??? :-)
