Hi
In order to use a Wireless Cable/DSL Router the Modem needs an Ethernet
output (USB would not do it).
Many Cable Modems have both USB and Ethernet if yours have Ethernet output,
you have to get a Network cable and connect the modem's Ethernet output to
your computer's Network Card. If your computer does not have Network card,
you have to install one.
If your computer has a Network Card and you need to check the viability of
the Card's configuration and its related setting read this,

I recently had installed a cable modem. I have been trying to hook up a
wired router to my computer & the cable co hooked the modem up by using
the
USB connection. I have been on the phone with them to trouble shoot it &
they led me through it step by step & said my computer isn't recognizing
the
ethernet port. Can anyone help me figure out how to do it?
