Chuck,
Here are the output files again. It seems I left wordwrap enabled. Sorry.

Chuck,
Thank you for that explanation. Before I change any settings, I want to be
sure I understand that explanation!
Because my LAN is set up through a switch, I must explicitly enable NetBT.
The setting which does this is called "NetBIOS" and I set this, not to
"default" - where it is now on all 3 machines, but to "enable".
Is that correct?
As for firewalls, I am using the Windows XP firewall on all 3 computers.
What setting would I use to ensure the firewall allows the 3 computers access
to each other's shared files?
Thank you,
Ken
Ken,
The NetBIOS Over TCP/IP is a very easily misunderstood setting. It's a
checkbox, and from the name, you'd seem to be enabling "NetBIOS" over TCP/IP (as
opposed to what?). Actually, you're Enabling Server Message Blocks (SMBs) over
"NetBIOS Over TCP/IP", as opposed to SMBs directly hosted on IP. And the SMBs
involved affect multiple issues on your computer:
# The browser (ability to see other computers).
# Name resolution (ability to find out the addresses of other computers).
# File sharing (ability to access resources on other computers).
# Firewall filtering (SMBs use different ports in either case).

Chuck,
At the risk of monopolizing more of your time, I must admit that I am
thoroughly confused now! I only THOUGHT I was confused before....
I set all computers to enable NetBIOS. That did not change anything.
Then, again digging into your website, using the link you provided below,
the applicable situation seems to be my ipconfig /all showing all three node
types as "unknown". Your site, and Microsoft's knowledge base, seem to
suggest that I run regedit and modify my "EnableProxy" value to either 1 or
0. Is this correct?
That for my situation, a LAN with a switch with NO internet connection
problems, but with file sharing access problems, that a regedit enableproxy
value change is indicated as the next step in troubleshooting?
How difficult would it be to completely eradicate any networking artifacts
from my computers and try to start from scratch? (I am assuming that
following the network setup wizard somehow led me into an erroneous
configuration.)
Ken,
The NetBT setting is where you start. If you have another problem (not uncommon
here), you have to work on that problem next. Node Type "Unknown" is normally
NOT a problem.

Let's look at "browstat status", "ipconfig /all", "net config server", and "net
config workstation", from each computer, HERE, and diagnose the problem. Read
this article, and linked articles, and follow instructions precisely (download
browstat!):
