Hello

Let's start off by checking your IP release information. It sounds like your
DHCP server could be signing out 1 hour IP releases. Then when it tries to
renew might have a hold up on assigning a new IP rental.

Next make sure you are connected to the net

1) Go to Start>Run> type cmd ...then click ok or press enter..this will
bring up your command prompt or known as the dos prompt

2)type ipconfig/all ... this will list all your connection details.. Look
near the end of the list for the line that contains Lease Obtained & Lease
Expirese
...What is the two Lease dates & time say ? ...

3) From using the ipconfig/all command you can also get crucial info like
gateway & dns Domain name server...which in the next step I will explain how
to enter this info manually for your tcp/ip settings.

4) Looking at the ipconfig/all info, look at the line that says DNS
Servers..then go to Start>Control Panel>Network & Internet Connections>click
Network Connections> select local area connection right click on it then
properties. This will bring up your Local Area Connection properties box.
...next unselect Client for Microsoft Networks and File & Printer Sharing
for Microsoft Networks so there is no check mark beside these. The reason for
this is Client for Microsoft Networks is used if you want to set up a network
in a company environment. If your a home user then it is recomended for
security reasons to clear this selection and disable this function. If your
not sharing files on a private network with friends or across the net then
also it is best practise to disable this function.
.....Next select Internet Protocol(Tcp/Ip) then click properties
...Near the bottom Select Use the Following DNS Server Addresses add the 2
IP addresses from what the ipconfig /all lists beside DNS Servers

...After entering the 2 DNS servers click the Advanced button near the
bottom right.

6) On this page Under the tab IP Settings You can see headings..Ip Addresses
& Default Gateway...hop on down to Default Gateway. Click Add beside Gateway
and enter the gateway IP. Unselect Automatic metric and enter 1 . The 1
represents the lowest and fastest metric for gateways to find a quick route
for packets to travel. Click add now you should see the Ip you entered
beneath the Default Gateway heading. To find the gateway IP Look at your
Ipconfig/all listings and look at what it has beside Default Gateway.

Also under the Ip Settings tab at the bottom uncheck Automatic metric and
enter 1

7) Next you still have your Advanced TCP settings dialogue box open. At the
top click the DNS tab. Uncheck the following ... Append parent suffixes of
the primary DNS Suffix & Register This Connections in DNS

...you still have your Advanced TCP settings dialogue and select th next tab
which is titled WINS

8) Under this tab you will make sure that there is no check mark beside
Enable LMHOSTS Lookup & Under the Netbios Settings heading Select Disable
Netbios over TCP/IP...then click OK...and click OK again...and for a third
time click OK.

9) One more step Start>Control Panel>Performance &
Maintenance>Administrative Tools>Services> scroll down to DNS Clent ..double
click it ..under the general tab look at startup type and change it to
disabled.click OK

Whew.. All done ..Restart your computer...

In a summary what was explained step by step has not only set IP addreses
manually. It has secured your internet connection a little bit more by
closing Netbios. By setting the IP addresses manually you create a reliable
connection from your computer to where your ISP servers are. Its a known fact
that leaving the IP settings to Auto may work a good part of the time then
every so often it goes flakey and loss of connections happen every so often.
The manual settings ensure that it points your Operating System and ethernet
card in the correct direction.

Let me know if this works and if not lots more suggestions.

LoL....lots of water u bet thats for afterwards...to replenish the fluids
after having lots of fun in the sun and a few wobbly pops
...i could use the warm weather since this winter here has been in the range
of -10 celcius to as low as -28 celcius..

Cheers!

WOW (Not a word I use often !)

Done every thing you said and we will now have to wait and see if it
works.

Mate, explained very well and in the simple form that an idiot like
myself needs. Thanks and I'll get back to you in a couple of hours to
let you know what happened.
