Does the Windows Explorer FTP client close its connections?

Does the FTP client built into Windows (XP) Explorer close any open
connections when you close the FTP window?
I did a lot of testing on a web site yesterday, so I did a lot of uploading
and log-checking using Windows Explorer as my FTP client. I simply closed
the Windows FTP windows when I was done, assuming that Windows would take
care of closing the connection.
After mid-day, the site slowed to a crawl, and I'm wondering if i was
leaving a bunch of FTP connections open.
Also, on the same subject, does anyone know if the Visual Studio "Copy Web
Site" page closes its connection if I simply close the page without clicking
the "Close Connection" button in the page's toolbar?
Thanks for your help.
