High CPU Usage on Windows XP Pro with wireless LAN card

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

System is a Abit KN9 SLI with 2 7900GS card, SMC Wireless EZ Connect
and AMD X2 4600, 2 GB DDR2.

Installed Windows XP SP2 Pro on a clean system. Everything is alright
until I install the Wireless Lan card, then CPU1 usage goes permanently
to almost 100%, without anything happening on the LAN connection: no
traffic. In taskmanager no active process can be identified. When I
disable the LAN connection CPU1 usage instantly drops to almost 0%.

What could be the cause of this problem?
