svchost error after january patchday - network access fails

Hi Newsgroup-Readers,

since the monthly rollout of Security Patches through our WSUS-Server took
place this wednesday, we had similar errors on various (8 of 320) Windows XP
machines.

On the affected computers, following updates were detected & installed:

- Sicherheitsupdate für Excel 2003 (KB925257)
- Update für den Junk-E-Mail-Filter von Outlook 2003 (KB925534)
- Windows-Tool zum Entfernen bösartiger Software - JAN 2007 (KB890830)
- Sicherheitsupdate für Outlook 2003 (KB924085)
- Sicherheitsupdate für Windows XP (KB929969)

After these Patches/Updates were installed, the errors occured:

After rebooting & logging on to the domain, network connections seemed to
fail after a couple of minutes and a failure popped up mentioning the
"svchost.exe failed .... bla ... Read Error ... Speicherbereich bla"
(sorry for my unpreciseness).
I pasted an error logged in the eventlog of an affected machine at the end
of this posting.

To get back access to the network, users had to reboot, to find out that the
error would return again, like described above.

Our Workarround to solve the problem was following:

1. Booting up the maching, logging on as local Administrator
2. Taking the machine off the domain, into a temporary workgroup
3. Rebooting, logging on as local Administrator again.
4. Adding the machine on to the domain again (using the same computername).
5. Rebooting

After this workarround, the machines worked without any problems and the
Error Message did not return again.

I would be very interessted, if anybody had similar problems after this
weeks patchday. Is there anyone who has more information about this issue?

Greetings from Germany,
Christian
