Problem accessing my own computer

If this subject has been addressed 1,000 times, I apologize.
I have searched all day without any success to an answer

Setup:
This is on a single stand alone computer.
Not Connected to the internet or anything.
Running Windows XP.
I have uninstalled Trend Micro virus protection.
I have turned off firewall projection.
The name of the computer is paullaptop.
The workgroup is WORKGROUP
There is only one user setup for this machine and I have admin rights.

Problem
when I click start, run, and type \\paullaptop and press enter
i get a window that shows my shared printers and shared folders
i can access my printers but i get the following error message on all
shared folders

\\paullaptop\foldername is not accessible.
You might not have permission to use this network resource.
Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access
permissions.
The network location cannot be reached.

I have done this on windows 2000 machines but seem to be stuck now.

Please Help.

Thanks.
