Hi Chuck,
Here below the "net use" of my desktop:
C:\>net use
New connections will be remembered.
There are no entries in the list.
Here the "net shares" "net sessions", "net files", "net use", of my laptop:
C:\>net share
Share name Resource Remark
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
M$ M:\ Default share
ADMIN$ C:\WINDOWS Remote Admin
C$ C:\ Default share
IPC$ Remote IPC
The command completed successfully.
C:\>net session
There are no entries in the list
C:\>net file
There are no entries in the list
C:\>net use
New connections will be remembered.
Status Local Remote Network
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Disconnected Z: \\Wxp\favorites Microsoft Windows Network
The command completed successfully.
As you can see, Z: is not connected, but if I click on it, it does.

I have a home network:
1) Desktop (Master) Wired
2) Laptop (Salve) Wireless
Both PCs are on WXP PRO fully updated.
In order to backup different shared folders at shutdown, I mapped the
shared folders on my laptop assigning the Z:\ letter
The backup itself works fine, but when I switch the laptop on, most of
the
time, I get the message "Could not connect all network drives".
In fact, if I go to My Computer, I see that Z:\ is disconnected, if I
click
on it it connects immediately and shows all the shared folders.
This is strange because the option "connect at logon" in the Map
Network
Drive windows is ticked.
Obviously, everytime, I have to follow the described procedure in order
to
get my backup done.
Can you help me in understanding why my Z:\ drive does not connect
automatically, as it should?
Thank you
I'll bet that Master is disconnecting inactive connections. See how
many
connections are open, and what the status of each one is.

This is what I can see if I run the two commands in my desktop:
C:\>net share
Share name Resource Remark
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
print$ C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers
Printer Drivers
C$ C:\ Default share
V$ V:\ Default share
M$ M:\ Default share
ADMIN$ C:\WINDOWS Remote Admin
IPC$ Remote IPC
AutoLogin C:\Documents and Settings\AD\Application
Data\SlimBrowser\AutoLogin
Favorites C:\Documents and Settings\AD\Favorites
My Photos V:\My Photos
SharedDocs C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\ALL USERS\DOCUMENTS
Canoni865 USB001 Spooled Canon i865
The command completed successfully.
C:\>net sessions
There are no entries in the list.
C:\>net file
There are no entries in the list.
Is this what you mean? I can count 10 shares on my desktop, is this the
issue?
If yes, what's the best option?
Hi,
Can anybody help??
Thank you
Alex
Alex,
If you're going to go this route, let's look at "net shares" "net
sessions",
"net files", AND "net use", from both computers.
And please, if you're going to top post, cut out the signature with "-- ".
