Problem: Both WMP 11 and Zune can see the Xbox 360 on the local wired
network, but the game console can't see the pc in order to share media. I
called XBOX Live support, and they couldn't solve the problem after 40
minutes.
Background on the problem: I'm not alone - check out
http://forums.xbox.com/333/ShowForum.aspx and you'll see a lot of people
voicing similar complaints. Even in this forum, too.
My network: Broadband cable connects into WAN of DI-604 switch router
(latest firmware upgrade, UPnP is enabled, router is supported by Xbox). Two
wired ethernet LAN connections run out to pc and Xbox 360.
Xbox 360: Except for media sharing, the console has full Xbox Live
connectivity.
In the System blade, it is currently not connected to a computer. I
purchased the xbox 360 last week, so was never previously connected to a pc.
When I "Test Media Connection":
Network Adaptor = Wired
IP Address = Confirmed
PC Selected = Failed
Under "Network Settings":
- the Xbox Live Connection is fine: all Confirmed, and NAT is OPEN.
IP Address is 192.168.0.101, subnet mask is 255.255.255.0, DNS settings are
Automatic, and both Internet Gateway and Primary DNS Server are 192.168.0.1
PC:
The Windows Firewall is off. The only 3rd party protection I have is Norton
Antivirus 2005, which is set to Permit all WMP and Zune program activities.
All Windows updates automatically download, security and otherwise,
including Service Pack 2 and Microsoft Net 2.0.
Looking at my Services, WMP network sharing / Zune / UPnP / SSDP are all
automatic and running ("Started").
Running ipconfig /all, I get:
C:\Documents and Settings\custom1>ipconfig /all

Internet Connection Sharing is not turned on (Xbox connects through router).
Both WMP 11 and Zune are fresh installs (even tried uninstalling and
reinstalling). And having just installed WMP 11, I don't have a DRM folder
to delete (suggested in other threads).
The very fact that the PC can see the Xbox, but not vice versa, hopefully
will lead to a solution.
If there's any more information I should provide, please let me know.
Thanks again.
Here's a brief note, with some links, about using an XBox 360 on a LAN:

To diagnose this properly, provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all", from
each computer AND from the XBox. Read this article, and linked articles, and
follow instructions precisely (download browstat!):
