Two computers, an XP desktop and a 2000 laptop. Both connect to a
remote server. The ISP we have to use is admittedly slow at times and I
think those delays are what causes the desktop to loose connection,
randomly, after anywhere from 1 minute to a half hour. The laptop right
next
to it can do the same connection for hours with rare problems. I'm
betting there's some registry setting for some timeout that is the
difference. Anybody have a clue?

Re: Remote Desktop Blues ... agreement you made with your ISP...... So, with that said, to test over your local LAN simply call from the laptop using the private LAN IP ... Once you have verified that works you can test from the laptop at a remote site,... software runs on one of my XP Pro boxes and on a time schedule basis contacts the No-IP.com servers.... Re: Stolen Computer ... useful is likely the "Mac address" of your network card....laptop there is a small chance that your ISP recorded it the last time you logged ... If you have wireless networking it likely also has a record of the mac address ... If you know your mac address and the ISP of your "friend" you sometimes can ... (microsoft.public.security)
