I am guessing that there must be something set wrong in the HP computer,

automatically and the DNS server address. We've shut off the modem and the
computer and brought them back up..no luck.
What setting can I check to make sure they are correct.. Need to get
connected so can work at home...but can't get connected to internet.

I believe that satellite based Internet uses encapsulated packets, which affects
the maximum MTU. So check your MTU setting.
