I had a power outage the other night. My system came back up but now I am no
longer able to connect to any of my shares on any computer. I receive the
"Network Path not found" error.
From my other systems I can access the shares on the bad computer with no
problems.
Here is what I have done.
1. Made sure no firewall(s) were running.
2. Ping the other machines with no problem, name lookup also works
3. uninstalled the network card replaced it with another card.
4. changed the workgroup name and IP addresses of each computer
5. reinstalled sp2.
6. uninstalled both Microsoft client and file and printshare then
reinstalled.
I can do everything dealing with the network except access windows shares on
this computer. Any help would be great. I would like to fix this rather
than blow the system away and reinstall clean.
Thanks
AJ,
Looks like you have thought out a lot of possibilities. So let's start from the
beginning. Look at "ipconfig /all" from the problem computer, and from 2
others.

OK, AJ, both ipconfig logs look OK except for one detail. With Node Type =
Hybrid, and a WINS server defined, a computer will ask the WINS server for an
address. Do you have a WINS server?

I do have a wins server. 192.168.2.4 (It is a Samba server that runs the
wins service on it also)
Well, this is one of the challenges of dealing with non-Microsoft systems. You
have a Samba server providing WINS, and you have a client computer with Node
Type = Hybrid, getting "Network Path not found", possibly when using that WINS
server.
If the problem is NOT the WINS server, check for the NetBT setting, and check
again for unrecognised personal firewalls.

After going through many things I still have no solution. The wins server
is answering fine for all boxes but this one. I did disable the wins server
and changed the settings on the boxes from hybrid to broadcast. Still did
not resolve the problem.
After doing some more troubleshooting I decided to use a packetsniffer on
the network. It appears when trying to connect to any share from the broken
box (\\192.168.2.4\sharename) It is sending all the traffic over on port 80
and not 445 which the other boxes do. Has this ever been seen?
Thanks
